Abstract Details

Purpose:

Use of a femtosecond laser eye surgery began with formation of the superficial valve of a cornea (a technique of "Femto-Lasik"), but in recent years thanks to the invention of the ReLEx technologies, there was a possibility of vision correction only by means of femtosecond laser. The first clinical results of the early postoperative period of myopia correction by the Femto-Lasik and ReLEx method on the VisuMax installation are analysed.

Setting:

The Khabarovsk branch of the State Institution Eye Microsurgery” Complex named after S. N. Fedorov

Methods:

The study examined data of 40 patients: the first group consisted of 20 patients (40 eyes), which operations are carried out by the "Femto-Lasik». The average degree of myopia was -4.89±0.27. The second group included 20 patients (40 eyes), operated by ReLEx. The average degree of myopia was -4,21±0,34. Patients of these groups were roughly comparable in age, sex and degree of myopia. All operations were performed according to plan, without complications. We analysed visual acuity with correction and without, and also a clinical refraction before operation, next day after operation, in week and month after operation.

Results:

In the first group visual acuity without correction after operation practically reached next day the maximum visual acuity: 0.89±0.05. The refraction corresponded the calculated value and ranged from -0,75 to +1,0 D. In a month after the operation there was an increase in visual acuity up to 0.94±0.04, stable refraction parameters. In the second group next day after operation visual acuity made 0.78±0.04, the refraction ranged from -1,0 to +1,5 D. There was a slight decrease in visual acuity on the first day. A month later, the picture has changed diametrically, visual acuity reached their maximum value 0.97±0.04, which was the highest result in both groups. Refraction stabilized and ranged from -0.5 to +0.5 D.

Conclusions:

The use of femtosecond laser technology for the correction of myopia is a safe method that gives a stable and predictable result. ReLEx technique shows the best performance on visual acuity and refraction, and the use of laser during the procedure is a huge advantage, as it allows to reduce the time of the procedure and creates a more comfortable environment to the patient at the time of surgery.
