Abstract Details
Purpose:
to present the new lenticule separating and removing technique and the own design tool for its implementation after femtosecond small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE).
Setting:
S. Fyodorov IR&TC “Eye Microsurgery”, St.-Petersburg, Russian Federation.
Methods:
The VisuMax femtosecond system was used to create intrastromal lenticule and small corneal 2 mm incision located from 9 to 11 o’clock. For all stages of manually lenticule separating and removing only “Cobra” spatula own design was used. Stromal pocket was not flushed.
Results:
The study included 252 eyes of 130 patients with moderate to high myopia. The follow-up period was 2 years. It was no complications on the lenticule separation step, as well as post-operative infectious complications. In all cases, UCVA 1.0 or more was achieved during the first month after surgery. According Pentacam topography optical zone size was adequate planned. Gentle scar in primary corneal incision was determined with no signs of strain at its edges.
Conclusions:
Usage of a single tool for all stages of lenticule separation reduces the risk of complications and shortens the duration of operation.
