Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual outcomes, efficacy, and safety of trifocal toric intraocular lens AT LISA tri toric 939MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG) implantation for a correction of presbyopia in patients after refractive lens exchange (RLE) and in patients after cataract surgery.

Setting:

European Eye Clinic Lexum, Prague, Czech Republic

Methods:

This study included 53 patients (85 eyes) implanted with AT LISA tri toric 939MP lens, after RLE (61 eyes) and after cataract surgery (24 eyes). Preoperative astigmatism and postoperative uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuity, uncorrected near (UNVA) and intermediate (UIVA) visual acuity (on Jaeger optotypes) were analysed, together with the rotational stability of the lens and postoperative complications. Subjective satisfaction of patients with their postoperative distance, intermediate and near vision was evaluated using one standardised and one non-standardised self-administered questionnaire.

Results:

Mean patients’ age was 55.55±8.07 years (39 to 75 years). Mean follow-up was 5 months (1 to 12 months). Mean postoperative UDVA in non-amblyopic eyes was 0.07±0.12 logMAR. Mean postoperative CDVA was 0.00±0.03 logMAR. Mean monocular UNVA corresponded to J1-J2; UIVA was J3-J4. Preoperative corneal astigmatism obtained from IOL Master was -1.97±0.89 D (-6.65 to -0.93 D). Mean postoperative manifest astigmatism was -0.20±0.34 D (-1.50 to 0.00 D). Reposition of the lens was required in 7 eyes (8.2%), due to rotation of 8-87 degrees. According to both questionnaires, patients were very satisfied with their postoperative vision.

Conclusions:

Our study showed that in eyes with high level of astigmatism, cataract or refractive surgery with implantation of trifocal toric lens AT LISA tri toric 939MP provides very good quality of vision at all three distances. This was also supported by high subjective satisfaction of patients.
