Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual outcome and patients’ satisfaction after refractive lens exchange with implantation of Tecnis 1-piece multifocal intraocular lenses (MFIOL) with +2,75D near addition in dominant eye and +3,25D near addition in non dominant eye.

Setting:

University Eye Hospital Svjetlost, Zagreb, Croatia

Methods:

Twenty two patients (44 eyes) underwent bilateral refractive lens exchange. Tecnis MFIOLs, ZKB00 model with +2,75 D near add were implanted in dominant eye and Tecnis MFIOLs , ZLB00 model with +3,25 D near add in non-dominant eye after clear lens extraction. Uncorrected near (UCNVA), intermediate (UCIVA) and distance (UCDVA) visual acuity, spectacle independence and patient’s satisfaction were measured. Follow up was at least six months.

Results:

Binocular UCDVA was 0.00 logMAR or better in all patients. Binocular UCNVA at patient’s preferred distance was J2 or better in all patients and binocular UCIVA at 66 cm was 0.10 logMAR or better. Only 2 of 22 patients noticed difference between eyes that did not bother them. All patients were free of glasses and 27,3% of them reported mild night driving haloes.

Conclusions:

Refractive lens exchange with combination of the Tecnis MFIOL, ZKB00 model with +2,75 D near add in dominant eye and Tecnis MFIOLs , ZLB00 model with +3,25 D near add in non-dominant eye enables excellent visual acuity at all distances without serious visual disturbances.
