Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the eye movements pattern while reading a spanish version of the MNREAD test
Setting:
University of Valencia, Spain
Methods:
Using a low cost infrared webcam we obtained for each patient a video of the right eye during the reading. Later, a Matlab script coded by the autors detects the position of the pupil in each frame. The data is analyzed to get the saccades movements and heat maps in order to determine the movement patterns.
Results:
The results are consistent with those found in the literature and show the convenience of using gaze tracking technology as it provides objective results. The pattern of eye movements while reading provide a new way of analyzing this task.
Conclusions:
To asses the reading process using gaze tracking technology provides objective information of high value that can be compared with the subjective results provided by the classic reading tests and could be specially useful in presbyopia evaluation.
