Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe the refractive outcomes and vectorial analysis of the AT Torbi 709M toric (Carl Zeiss Meditec) intraocular lens in Asian eyes.
Setting:
Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore
Methods:
Prospective analysis of all eyes undergoing phacoemulsification surgery which had implantation of the AT Torbi 709M IOL for the correction of cataracts and refractive error. All surgeries were performed by 1 surgeon at the Singapore National Eye Centre and all patients were followed-up for at least 4 months post-operation. Preoperative visual acuity and refractive error were recorded. Post-operative unaided and aided visual acuity, refractive error and complications were recorded. Vectorial analysis was performed using the method described by Thibos et al.
Results:
63 eyes are included in this study to date (number will be higher by the time of the conference). There were 45 Chinese, 27 Malay and 1 Indian eyes. 30 eyes (47.6%) achieved unaided distance visual acuity of 20/20 after 1 month post-operation. 57 eyes (90.5%) achieved best-corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better after surgery. The mean post-op spherical equivalent was +0.19 +/- 0.53 D. The mean pre-op cylinder was -1.64 +/- 1.26 D and the mean post-op cylinder was -0.41 +/- 0.45 D. The post-op manifest cylinder was reduced compared to the pre-op corneal cylinder in all eyes.
Conclusions:
The use of the AT Torbi toric monofocal IOL resulted in good post-operative unaided and aided distance visual acuity in Asian eyes. The AT Torbi toric IOL was effective in reducing the rate and severity of post-op astigmatism in Asian eyes.
