Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe the refractive results of multifocal IOL implantation in patients with previous corneal refractive laser surgery for hyperopia.
Setting:
Retina Total Eye Care, Driebergen, The Netherlands
Methods:
Prospective data collection of refractive and visual acuity results 3 months after implantation of a multifocal IOL (Acrysof Restor, Alcon) in patients who have had previous corneal refractive laser surgery for hyperopia (LASIK, LASEK or PRK).
Results:
Eighty-one eyes of 46 patients were included. Twenty-nine eyes underwent lens extraction because of cataract, 52 eyes had a clear lens extraction. Mean post-operative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDA) was 0.15±0.02 LogMAR, median was 0.14 LogMAR. Mean post-operative spherical equivalent was 0.07±0.10D. Sixty-five % reached ±0.50D, 86% reached ±1.0D. One eye had an IOL-change because of a hyperopic refractive surprise. There were no serious adverse events (no cystoid macular edema, no endophthalmitis).
Conclusions:
Multifocal IOL implantation in eyes with previous corneal laser surgery for hyperopia gives good results in terms of refractive outcome and visual acuity.
