Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine the refractive results, and contrast sensitivity after implantation of multifocal intraocular IOL TECNIS Symfony (ZXR00)

Setting:

COI Bilbao Berri. Bilbao, Vizcaya. SPAIN

Methods:

16 TECNIS Symfony ZXR00 IOLs were implanted in 10 patients of mean age 69 years (56-81) after lens extraction. SRK/T formula with a 119.3 A-constant was used for IOL power calculation. The refractive outcome was assessed, the VA at different distances was measured by hopping blur 0.50D and plotted in a defocus curve. Contrast sensitivity (CS) was tested by Sine Wave Contrast Test (SWCT, Visumetrics 1992) in mesopic conditions

Results:

The spheroequivalent residual refraction was -0.01 (-0.50 - +0.75). The mean logMAR VA in for close focus (-3.00D) was 0.56 ± 0.18; at intermediate focus (-1.50D) 0.11 ± 0.10 and far focus (+ 0.00D) 0.02 ± 0.07. The mean CS for different spatial frequencies was for A: 5.85 ± 0.66; B: 5.86 ± 0.66; C: 4.64 ± 0.84; D, 3.57 ± 1.10; E: 3.14 ± 1.35

Conclusions:

Extended lens range vision TECNIS Symfony has a good refractive outcome with that provided constant, provides excellent distance and intermediate visual acuity with good contrast sensitivity at all frequencies.
