Short-term clinical results of a diffractive trifocal IOL in Koreans

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the clinical results of a 4-point haptic diffractive trifocal IOL in Korean eyes.
Setting:
Metro Eye Center, Daegu, Rep of Korea.
Methods:
44 eyes of 22 patients who underwent phacoemulsification and bilateral implantation of a 4-point haptic trifocal lens (AT LISA tri839MP, Carl Zeiss Meditec) were enrolled in this study. The main outcome measures were uncorrected distance (UDVA), intermediate (UIVA) and near (UNVA) visual acuities; visual quality and patient satisfaction were evaluated using a Quality of Vision (QoV) questionnaire after 3 months. Finally, the defocus curve was measured.
Results:
The monocular uncorrected visual acuity at 3 months was 0.01±0.03 (LogMAR) at 4m, 0.20±0.10 at 80cm, 0.21±0.10 at 40cm. The binocular uncorrected visual acuity at 3 months was 0.00±0.02 at 4m, 0.11±0.10 at 80cm, 0.15±0.10 at 40cm. The defocus curve peaked at 0 D and -2.5D. Out of 21 patients who completed the QoV questionnaire, 19 patients replied to choose the IOL again. Spectacle independence rate was high at 100% for distance vision, 95.2% for intermediate vision and 85.7% for near vision. In terms of dysphotopsia, 13 patients experienced glare, while 18 patients experienced haloes. However, the degree of dysphotopic perception did not interfere with the quality of vision in the majority of patients.
Conclusions:
Diffractive trifocal IOL showed high rates of patients satisfaction with good visual acuity and quality after bilateral implantation in Koreans.
