Abstract Details

Purpose:

Purpose: To compare visual quality of implantable collamer lens ( Visian ICL ) with and without central hole for correction of moderate to high Myopia.

Setting:

Aier Eye Hospital, Chengdu,China.

Methods:

This study included 30 eyes of 15 patients who underwent implantation of Visian ICL V4c and 28 eyes of 14 age-matched patients who underwent conventional ICL implantation. The UCVA, refractive power, spherical aberration and coma aberration were recorded for up to 3 months after surgery. We also assessed the postoperative contrast sensitivity(CS) and compared these postoperative variables between the two groups.

Results:

The postoperative frequency CS was significantly improved after surgery compared with preoperative CS. There was no statistically significant difference in CS between conventional and V4c ICLs. At 3 months after surgery, Coma aberration and spherical aberration in Hoe ICL group were 0.082±0.0446, 0.011±0.060 which were significantly reduced after surgery compared with before surgery. Coma aberration and spherical aberration in conventional ICL group were 0.113±0.080, 0.017±.0401, which were significantly reduced after implantation. There were no significant differences between Visian ICL V4c and conventional ICL group in coma aberration, spherical aberration postoperatively. There were also no significantly differences in UCVA and refractive diopters after implantation between two groups.

Conclusions:

The outcomes showed that Visian ICL V4c and conventional ICLs provided good and comparable visual performance, suggesting that the presence of the central hole does not significantly affect the visual quality after surgery.
