Implantable collamer lens in 24 eyes: follow-up and management of postoperative complications encountered

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report a case series of 24 eyes implanted with implantable collamer lenses (ICL) in a period of one year and the management of post operative complications encountered in few cases

Setting:

M.D.Eye Care & Laser Centre, Greater Kailash part-II, New Delhi, India

Methods:

After proper preoperative evaluation ICL was implanted in 24 eyes of 12 patients. 14 eyes were implanted with ICL without centraflow technology and 10 eyes with centraflow technology. Preoperative YAG peripheral iridotomies (PI) at two sites in each eye were performed only in those planned for ICL without centraflow technology. The follow-up period was 3 months to 1 yr. Post-op evaluation included Visual acuity, IOP, anterior chamber depth and measurement of vault distance by Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography (AS-OCT).

Results:

Excellent patient satisfaction for improved visual acuity was found in every patient. Increased intraocular pressure was noted in 4 eyes of two patients (one patient had ICL without centraflow technology and the other had ICL with centraflow technology). First patient is on continuous single anti glaucoma medication and in the second patient YAG PI both eyes was done.

Conclusions:

Along with white to white, anterior chamber depth and pre-op YAG PI , pre-op gonioscopy and postoperative IOP evaluation is mandatory even in case of ICLs with or without centraflow technology.
