Magrabi Riyadh Centre three year phakic IOL expereince in Saudi Arabia: an in-depth analysis

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate and analyze the surgical outcome of Phakic IOL intervention in terms of visual acuity improvement and endothelial cell preservation in 4-year follow-up.

Setting:

Magrabi Riyadh Center, Saudi Arabia

Methods:

A total of 84 eyes, 40 OD and 44 OD from 26 subjects were included, of which 40 did iris-claw IOL & 44 did collamer lens implantation. Visual acuity and endothelial cell count were recorded pre-operatively and post-operatively from 3,6, 12, 24 and 36 months follow-up.

Results:

Visual acuity analysis resulted in a mean UDVA of 20/27 +0.036 post-operatively from 20/475+281.49 pre-operatively. Mean BCVA of 20/21+0.024 post-operatively from 20/30+22.81 pre-operatively. Endothelial cell count integrity was 2432.55 + 487.363 pre-operatively, down to 2386.92 + 627.217 post-operatively.

Conclusions:

Stable visual results were evident from 3 months to 4 years post-operative follow-up. Endothelial cell count depreciated with a minimal 9.81% loss.
