Abstract Details
Purpose:
To design intraocular lenses with different types of surfaces by using a new simple approach. The optical profiles can be introduced to an optical design program and create a simulation of the intraocular lens in order to be tested in human eye models.
Setting:
University of Valencia – Optics Faculty, Burjassot, Valencia, Spain
Methods:
Matlab mathematical programming language was used to create the code. This code can combine spherical sag functions with aspheric and conic constants, diffraction sag functions and apodization factors in order to create the profile. The code provides different plots to test the profile of the lens and a text file of coordinations which can be introduced to an optical design program in order to simulate the lens.
Results:
Spherical, aspherical, refractive and diffractive models of intraocular lenses where designed. These lenses were simulated and tested with Zemax-EE Optical Design Program. The designs were tested using spot diagrams, point spread functions, modulation transfer functions and image simulations.
Conclusions:
The code can create intraocular lens profiles. The results of the code can be introduced in optical design program like Zemax in order to be simulated and tested. The code can be used to design and develop the intraocular lenses that are already out in the market.
