Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements obtained with Ultrasonic Pachymetry (USP) and Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography (AS-OCT).

Setting:

Aydın Atatürk State Hospital, Aydın/Turkey

Methods:

Seventy eight eyes of thirty nine volunteers between 40-60 ages were recruited in this study. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements, anterior and posterior segment biomicroscopic examinations of all volunteers were performed. CCT measurements were evaluated with Nidek UP and Zeiss Cirrus HD model OCT. IOP over 21 mmHg were excluded in this study. Ocular problems seconder to systemic diseases like diabetes mellitus and hypertension and ocular pathologies like corneal ectasia, glaucoma and cataract were also excluded.

Results:

Average of CCT measurements with USP was 546,3±31 micron while average CCT measurements with AS-OCT was found 542,9± 31 micron. In this sudy results CCT measurements obtained with USP were statistically higher than with AS-OCT (p< 0,05).

Conclusions:

Because of the reason of CCT measurements are important in evaluating IOP and corneal evaluation of the patients who underwent refractive surgery, who had glaucoma and corneal pathologies, these measurements should be performed correctly. According to this study while evaluating CCT, AS-OCT measurements should also be kept in mind with USP.
