Purpose:
to assess the efficacy and safety of use of bivacizumab,mitomycin c and triamcinolon in management of recurrent pterygium
Setting:
Sohag faculty of medicine ,Egypt
Methods:
Fifteen eyes of fifteen patients with recurrent pterygium were injected by bivacizumab(1.25mg0.1ml) subconjunctivally after one week surgical excision with bare sclera technique , mitomycin c 0.1% application intraoperatively finally subtenon triamcinolon(8 mg 0.2 ml) was injected.follow up of the patients from 8 to36 months was done to detect recurrence or any other complications
Results:
Fifteen eyes of fifeen patients with recurrent pterygium of previous one surgery from 8 month to 12 years with mean 4.2 years
12 patients were males (80%) and 3 were females (20%)
The recurrent pterygium ranging from 2mm to 5.5 mm from the limbus with mean 3.2 mm
The follow up period from 8 month to 36 month with mean 25 months
The complications were One patient with postoperative granuloma (6.7%) underwent excision after 21 days of surgey and resolved
One patient(6.7%) with irritable eye with lacrimation and pain for one month resolved by frequent steroid
No recurrence or major complications occurred in the follow up period
Conclusions:
Triple technique is safe and effctive technique in management of recurrent pterygium
