Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze axial length data and preoperative corneal astigmatism in cataract patients from TURKEY.
Setting:
Bursa Sevket Yılmaz and Ankara Yurtaslan Oncology Training and Research Hospital
Methods:
Patients who underwent cataract surgery at Bursa Sevket Yılmaz and Ankara Yurtaslan Oncology Training and Research Hospital between November 2009 and November 2013 were retrospectively reviwed.
Results:
Our study comprised 449 eyes of 449 candidate patients for cataract surgery . Mean age of patients was 68,6±9,8 years. The mean AL was 23,1±1,0 mm . The mean corneal astigmatism was 1±0,7 D. One Diopter or less corneal astigmatism was found in 315 eyes (70,1 %),1 to 2 D in 99 eyes (22 %), 2 D or more in 35 eyes (%8), and 232 eyes (51,7%) had with-the-rule (ATR) astigmatism. Against-the-rule astigmatism (ATR) increased with aging.
Conclusions:
This study provides reference data for cataract patients from Turkey. In our study 0.17D of decrease was found with aging. The mean AL in our study was shorter than German and Chinese populations.Against-the-rule astigmatism (ATR) increased with aging depending on corneal biomechanical changes.
