Abstract Details

Purpose:

This new procedure has been used since more than 3 years in many countries all over the world either for Advanced Surface Ablation (A.S.A),either for Cross-Linking and recently even for pterygium and corneal graft.

Setting:

We add our own experience with longest term A.S.A.results to more than 20 congress publications ,free papers and communications in the field of refractive surgery and Cross- Linking from many surgeons from all over the world.

Methods:

This clinical study is based on the measure of the quality of the healing in terms of pain, haze ,and accuracy of the refractive results.

Results:

The E.B.K. seems to be,as we already knew,a safe, quick, and easy to perform S.A. procedure and also provides high accuracy[low rate of haze, even for high myopic ablations, and not any case of under or over correction in our study] .The authors of Cross-linking have also reported a short recovery time.

Conclusions:

The E.B.K. provides a real protection of the Bowman's membrane, better than that we get with laser, keratome, alcohol or with the old hockey knife. In consequence ,the use of the excimer laser is followed by a good epithelial healing [short recovery time] and after that, by a good stromal healing [low rate of haze and accurate visual results]. The E.B.K. seems to be also reccomanded for the no -transepithelial Cross-Linking procedures.
