Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluate PTK treatment for patients with post adenoviral keratitis scar.
Monitor the visual acuity and extent of disappearnce of the the scar.
Setting:
Opthalmology Department,Faculty of Medicine,Cairo University.
Methods:
10 eyes of 10 patients with post adenoviral stromal scar were exposed to PTK treatment, where epithelium was removed, and 10 -15 um laser stromal ablation was performed.
Follow up by slit lamp examination and visual acuity was for 1 week,1 month, and 3 months postoperatively.
Results:
PTK showed significant improvement in visual acuity in 8 out of the 10 cases.
However it did not completely remove the stromal scar in 7 of the cases.
Conclusions:
PTK is a safe, easy, and convenient method to treat post adenoviral stromal scars.
However,it can not be considered the standard protocol for such cases,as depth of the scar varies from one case to another.
