Topography-guided PRK and cross-linking in eyes with keratoconus and post-LASIK ectasia

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report 18 months results of topography guided photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and cross-linking in eyes with keratoconus and post-LASIK ektasia

Setting:

The patients received combined treatment which consisted of topography guided PRK and cross-linking at Vista Diagnostics in Zürich, Switzerland.

Methods:

Retrospective case analysis of pre- and postoperative data was performed. Parameters recorded were: Kmax, Kmean, simK’s, pachymetry, sphere, cylinder, HOA RMS, coma and spherical aberration, UCVA and BCVA. Pre- and postoperative data were collected at 3, 6, 12 and 18 months.

Results:

10 eyes of 10 patients with keratoconus and post-LASIK ektasia were included. All patients showed improved topography at 3, 6, 12 and 18 months after the procedure (mean reduction in Kmax -4.3 diopters, range -1.5 until -9.6 diopters).

Conclusions:

Topography guided PRK combined with cross-linking can improve topographic parameters, HOA and and visual acuity in eyes with keratokonus and post-LASIK ektasia. Despite ablation on the cone all corneas were stable after a period of 18 months and none of the patients lost UCVA or BCVA.
