Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate LASIK results and the predictability of the residual stroma obtained with the ALCON refractive suite to correct myopia.
Setting:
Alcor Clinic, Bucharest
Methods:
A prospective descriptive study was conducted on a total of 61 eyes undergoing surgery to correct various degrees of myopia, by Femto LASIK technique. All procedures were performed by the same surgeon using the Alcon Wavelight Refractive Suite. We analysed the postoperative refraction, postoperative visual acuity without correction and the residual stroma at one day, one week, one month and three months.
Results:
The preoperative SE was -3.87 (SD 2.24). Average preoperative cylinder was -0.98 (SD 0.96). At 3 months post LASIK it was obtained an uncorrected AV> 0.8 in 93% of cases, while 77% of operated eyes showed an uncorrected AV equal to 1. The average spherical equivalent after 3 months postoperatively was 0.25D (SD 2) and the average cylindrical diopters were still 0.25D (SD 0.4). At 3 months postoperatively, the percentage of eyes operated with an SE which deviated by less than ± 0.5 diopters of estimated correction was 90%, while SE> 1D was present in 7% of cases. The residual stroma after Femto Lasik was very stable with a variation of 8 microns.
Conclusions:
Femto LASIK to correct myopia is a safe and effective procedure using FS200 femtosecond laser to create the flap and the predictability of the residual stroma is very good and stable
