Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy, safety and predictability of femto-LASIK for correction of high cylinder of 4 diopters or greater in myopic eyes.
Setting:
Sohag Laser center, Sohag City, Egypt
Methods:
Thirty-four consecutive myopic eyes with an astigmatism of 4 D and more were retrospectively analyzed. They underwent femtolasik using the intralase. UCVA, BCVA and residual astigmatism were followed at 3 and 6 months.
Results:
A total of 34 eyes receiving femto LASIK of 50 refractive surgery candidates were enrolled in the study. The mean preoperative cylinder was -4.0±0.83 D (range: -7.5 to -4 D). The mean residual refractive cylinder 3and 6 months postoperatively was -0.78±0.83 D (range: -3 to 0 D) and was -0.88±1.0 D (range: -3 to 0 D) respectively . The efficacy index = 0.76 (±0.32), safety index = 1.10 (±0.26) and predictability [achieved astigmatism < 1 D in 39% and < 2 D in 88%] was calculated.
Conclusions:
Femto-LASIK is safe, effective, and predictable for correction of high astigmatism of greater than 4 D in myopic eyes.
