Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate Pentacam Scheimpflug imaging of anterior segment parameters in Indian rural population.
Setting:
This study was conducted at the Ophthalmology Department, NIMS University Hospital, Jaipur, India.
Methods:
Prospective study of 100 eyes of 50 adults aged between 20 and 60 years were assessed with Pentacam to measure central corneal thickness(CCT), thinnest corneal thickness (TCT),apex corneal thickness( apex CT), corneal volume (CV),anterior chamber depth(ACD) anterior chamber volume(ACV), anterior chamber angle (ACA), white to white diameter(W2W), angle, pupil diameter
Results:
mean age was 30.10 yrs. TCT values of the present group of adults were 512.09µm(CCT=522.78µm) ( apex CT= 524.04 µm) . males had thicker corneas than females, although this difference was not significant, strong correlations were revealed between CT and C vol (r=60.17,p<0.001) as well as between anterior and posterior corneal radii(r=45.70,p<0.001)and between ACD (2.91mm)and ACvol(r=156.89 ,p<0.001) W2W (r=11.69,p<0.001) angle (r=37.65, p<0.001) pupil diameter(r=2.93mm, p<0.001) .weaker but significant correlations were encountered between several other pairs of ocular parameters.age and gender were found to be influence ACD and AC vol values.
Conclusions:
Different measurements, procedures and ethinic background preclude any direct comparision of the present results with published data(although CT in adults was found to be lower than previous reported in adults of similar age)
