Abstract Details
Purpose:
The precise measurement of ocular dimensions is critical for the determination of the adequate power of an intra-ocular lens to be implanted during cataract surgery. A new device, the GALILEI G6 Lens Professional, that had been developed for that purpose was compared to the IOLMaster ® (Carl Zeiss Meditec) and Lenstar® (Haag-Streit AG).
Setting:
Swiss Eye Research Foundation, Eye Clinic ORASIS, Reinach, Aargau, Switzerland
Methods:
40 patients with normal eyes, or eyes having mild or advanced cataract were measured with three GALILEI G6 Lens Professional devices, the IOLMaster and the Lenstar, and calculated IOL power as well as the refractive outcome was compared between the GALILEI G6 and the IOLMaster.
Results:
Axial length, corneal thickness CCT and corneal curvature agree well among three GALILEI G6 Lens Professional devices and to those measured with IOLMaster and Lenstar. Differences in white-to white to predicate devices are likely due to the fuzzy anatomical and wavelength-dependent definition of the limbus, particularities of the respective edge detectors in use, and differences in scleral fitting algorithms. IOL power as determined with the GALILEI G6 Lens Professional correlates strongly with IOL power as determined with the IOLMaster in the same eyes.
Conclusions:
The refractive outcome that was achieved by implanting IOL powers as determined with the IOLMaster matches the refractive outcome that would have been achieved if IOL powers had been determined with the GALILEI G6 Lens Professional.
