Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the agreement between the Pentacam HR and Galilei G4 to measure anterior and posterior corneal curvature parameters.

Setting:

University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain.

Methods:

Thirty eyes of thirty subjects whose ages ranged from 25 to 40 years were included in this study. Their spherical equivalent ranged from -1.25 to +0.75 D. The anterior eye segment was analyzed by single-Scheimpflug camera device (Pentacam HR) and dual-Scheimpflug camera device (Galilei G4) combined with a Placido disk. Analysed parameters of anterior and posterior axial corneal curvature were: simulated keratometry (Sim K), flat K and steep K. Both instruments used in this study evaluated the same parameters. Agreement was assessed by means of Bland-Altman plots.

Results:

The mean differences ± standard deviation for anterior mean simulated keratometry (Sim K), flat K and steep K between the dual and the single-Scheimpflug camera tomographer (Galilei G4 - Pentacam HR) were 0.04 ± 0.12 D, 0.05 ± 0.13 D and 0.04 ± 0.14 D, respectively (P > 0.01). Posterior corneal curvature mean differences for the mean K, flat K and steep K were 0.03±0.05 D, 0.04 ± 0.02 D and 0.02 ± 0.08 D, respectively (P > 0.01).

Conclusions:

Anterior and posterior curvature showed good agreement between instruments. Pentacam HR and Galilei G4 can be considered as interchangeable for the measurement and evaluation of the anterior and posterior corneal curvatures.
