Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate the biometric and refractive findings of patients diagnosed with Acute Primary Angle Closure (APAC) previously treated with laser Peripheral Iridotomy
Setting:
The study was carried out in a predominantly caucasian population at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Porstmouth, UK, a large district general hospital serving a polulation of 600,000 people.
Methods:
A retrospective study was performed using electronic medical records to locate cases of APAC presenting between January 2007 and October 2014. 85 cases of APAC presented over this period. Biometric data was taken using the Zeis IOL master, and was available in 46 cases. Refractive data was available in 39 cases.
Results:
Anterior chamber depth was documented in 41/46 cases. The median anterior chamber depth was 2.25mm (range 1.53- 4.33mm), with 40/41 eyes having an anterior chamber depth of ≤ 2.63mm. The median axial length was 22.09 mm (range 19.75 – 23.84mm). The median preoperative spherical equivalent refractive error was +1.50 (range -3.25 – 6.50D).
Conclusions:
Anterior chamber depth measurement may be useful in screening patients at risk of APAC in a Caucasian population. Mild hypermetropia, and a moderately short axial length also seemed to be common in this cohort.
