Analyze the visual and clinical results in 17 eyes of 16 patients with accelerated 10 mw epi off cross linking in progressive keratoconus
Setting:
Ophthalmic Hospital of Rome
Methods:
From November 2013 to February 2014 we submitted to accelerated cross linking 17 eyes of 16 patients ,12 males and 4 females, aged between 15 and 45 years . We performed postoperative exam of visual acuity ,corneal topography and anterior segment oct in all patients at 1,3,6 and 12 months and we documented with a slit lamp camera the cases that showed alterations of corneal transparency .
Results:
We noticed an improvement in BCVA in all cases, a flattening of the corneal k in 62% of cases , average demarcation line at 12-months was 162 microns and ,while we noticed very slight corneal opacity at 1 month, at 12 months clinically treatment was no longer visible.
Conclusions:
In our results at 12 months, accelerated (10 mw) epioff Cross linking is an effective treatment in the stabilization of keratoconus, seems to create less alterations of the corneal stroma compared to 3 mw, but however provides an improvement in BCVA.
