Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate the possibility and the effectiveness of penetrating keratoplasty by using the femtosecond laser.
Setting:
Scientific research institute of eyes disease, Kazakhstan, Almaty
Methods:
11 patients (11 eyes) were operated by femtosecond laser with keratoconus stage 3-4 with optic diameter not less then 7,5 mm. The average age was 34 years. Femtokeratoplasty was carried out with VisuMax 'Carl Zeiss Meditec' by treatment pack size М. We used cooled (+3+4) fresh donor corneal tissue after special treatment and analyses. Observation period was 6 months.
Results:
Problems with the formation of corneal disk for donor and recipient were not encountered during operation except for the partial mechanical separation of the residual corneal crosspiece. During the first period of the transplant adaptation we observed expressed edema on average 2-3 days. Transparent engraftments were at 6 patients , translucent- 4 , 1 patient - graft disease. The UCVA after operation improved in all patients (except patient with graft disease) in comparison to UCVA before it and was average 0,35±0,14.
Conclusions:
The received results showed the effectiveness and efficiently of penetrating keratoplasty by using femtosecond laser.
