An atypical corneal dystrophy: case report and a brief review of corneal dystrophies

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To discribe a corneal opacity candidate for PK andto report A 57 year old man with complain of gradually progressive visual loss in both eye since 4 years ago with unremarkable past medical and family history
Setting:
Academic practice, Shahid Sadoughi medical university, Yazd, Iran
Methods:
The patients and her two brothers had same lesion in their both eyes and referred for pk corneal recipient examined for pathology
Results:
Biomicroscopic examination revealed bilateral corneal opacity that involved corneal stroma and predescemet area that was not compatible with known typical corneal dystrophies. Slit lamp examination and scheimpflug imaging revealed bilateral multiple fine corneal opacities that involved the center of cornea with peripheral sparing and corneal thickening. The area between opacities was not clear.
Conclusions:
Microscopic Examination showed atypical opacity that was diagnosed between 2. of her Age of onset, level of corneal opacities and their pattern presented an atypical corneal dystrophy that may be a combination of a stromal dystrophy and predescemet's membrane dystrophies.
