Purpose:
To study effectiveness of exchanging autokeratoplasty in patients with Fucks dystrophy and pseudophakia
Setting:
S.N. Fyodorov "Eye Microsurgeryā€¯ clinic, St.-Petersburg Branch, Russia
Methods:
The main group: 14 patients treated with exchanging autokeratoplasty.
The control group: 14 patients after penetrating keratoplasty with unpreserved donor cornea/ Age varied from 75 to 85 years old.
All patients have complicated corneal leucomas and pseudophakia. In all cases of the main the fellow eye was totally blind with clear cornea. Cornea was exchanged between eyes in 11 cases and was taken after enucleation in 3 cases. Graft diameter in all cases was 7.5-8.0 mm
Results:
4 patients in the control group developed iridocyclitis and graft versus host disease. Transparent engraftment was in 12 patients, semitransparent in 6 patients. BCVA in the main group was 0,16+0,08, in the control group 0,12+0,06(p<0.05).
Conclusions:
Exchanging autokeratoplasty is more effective and safe methods then penetrating keratoplasty with donor cornea.
