Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate surgical technique and results of scleral fixation of intraocular lens combined with trabeculectomy.
Setting:
Eye Clinic, Military Medical Academy, Belgrade, Serbia
Methods:
Patient was referred to our institution due to uncontrolled intraocular pressure. He had previous cataract surgery with no intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Best corrected visual acuity was 0.6. As there was not enough capsular support we made combined scleral fixation of the IOL and glaucoma surgery. First we made anterior vitrectomy, than anterior chamber maintainer was placed. Next step was preparation for trabeculectomy with 5-fluorouracil without opening of the anterior chamber. Sutureless scleral fixation of tree-piece IOL in ciliary sulcus using temporal approach was made. Kelly punch was used to make trabeculectomy opening. Sutures were made using 10-0 nylon.
Results:
12 months after surgery, there were no complications, Best corrected visual acuity is 0.7 and intraocular pressure 15mmHg with no additional medications.
Conclusions:
Sutureless scleral fixating of IOL could be very well combined with trabeculectomy.
