Paediatric cataract surgery

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate clinical outcomes of pediatric cataract surgery

Setting:

Eye Clinic, University hospital „Sestre milosrdnice“

Methods:

Clinical records of children under 7 years old who had cataract surgery were retrospectively reviewed. The median age at the time of cataract surgery was 22 months , and the median follow up was 26 months (range 6 to 58 months).

Results:

IOL was implanted in most eyes (33/48), and 15 eyes left aphakic and had contact lens correction. Opacification of the visual axis was the most frequent complication. Glaucoma was frequent complication in small children.

Conclusions:

The most frequent postoperative complications were in children under 1 year and needed reoperation
