Abstract Details

Purpose:

Analyse successful anterior capsulotomy which is the bug-bear in paediatric cataract surgery in 25 sequential cases.

Setting:

Mehta International Eye Institute

Methods:

Using the Femtosecond Catalys Laser, children from age of 2 – 5 years, underwent successful procedure under anesthesia. The procedure was completely uncomplicated and in all cases, anterior capsulotomy was achieved with no residual flaps or tear. In 4 cases a simultaneous posterior capsulotomy was carried out as a second procedure which too was very successful though it needed to be completed.

Results:

The Femtosecond Cataract Laser procedure is ideal for children. In 100% of the cases we have achieved a perfect capsulotomy with no difficulty whatsoever converting what is actually a very difficult procedure into a simple method of delivering high quality surgery in children.

Conclusions:

All paediatric cases should be done utilizing Femtosecond laser as it will add safety and reproducibility to the results.
