Abstract Details
Purpose:
Much attention is paid to the frequency and structure of postoperative complications, occurring after aspiration of congenital cataract (CC) with IOL implantation in children of younger age group. So the purpose of our work was to study the frequency and structure of postoperative complications of CC aspiration with IOL implantation in children of above mentioned group.
Setting:
The study was performed in Khabarovsk affiliation of Eye Microsurgery complex named after acad. S. Fyodorov.
Methods:
The character of course of postoperative period has been studied in 70 children (92 eyes) who underwent aspiration of monocular (48 children) or bilateral (22 children) CC with Acrysof Natural IOL implantation. The children’s age at the moment of surgery varied from 3 months to 3 years (1,45±0,55 years in average). Posterior capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy were not performed in any case.
Results:
The early postoperative period was nonreactive in majority of cases (83 eyes-90,2±3,7%). The exudative reaction developed only in 9 eyes (9,8±1,1% of cases) in terms of 1-3 postop day. It was characterized by appearance of separate fibrin filaments in pupil area and on IOL surface, and formation of single pigment sinehias.
Conclusions:
The result of analysis of postoperative course after CC aspiration with IOL implantation in children of early age group showed that the frequency of early exudative reactions development does not exceed the bounds of average statistical indices.
