Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess rotational stability and visual perfomance of the novel CE-marked TECNIS Symfony Toric IOL.

Setting:

Vienna Institute for Research in Ocular Surgery, Department of Ophthalmology, Hanusch Hospital, Vienna

Methods:

This prospective mono-centre study included patients scheduled for cataract surgery in both eyes and a regular corneal astigmatism between 0.75 D and 2.60 D in at least one eye. Pre-operatively, optical biometry (IOL Master 500) and topography were performed (Atlas; both CZM AG, Germany). One hour, 1 week and 3 months after surgery unaided and bestcorrected visual acuity were assessed using ETDRS charts (Precision Vision, USA). Additionally, contrast sensitivity was assessed using ETDRS low contrast charts and the Optec 6500 (Stereo Optical Company). Retroillumination images were taken at the 1 hour and 3 months follow-up to measure rotational stability.

Results:

In total 60 eyes of 30 patients are included. Patient satisfaction was high in all cases and there were no intra-operative complications. In the post operative period no adverse events were observed. Rotational stability data will be available and presented at the meeting in Barcelona.

Conclusions:

There were no safety issues with the novel Symfony intraocular lens and patient satisfaction was high.
