Abstract Details

Purpose:

This prospective study is designed to compare the effect of Centurion Vision System on effective phacoemulsification time (EPT) with Infiniti Vision System.

Setting:

Sungmo Eye Hospital, Korea

Methods:

Patients were evaluated preoperatively with the Lens Opacities Classification System III (LOCS III) by Slit lamp examination. 200 eyes from 154 patients underwent cataract surgery using Centurion (group 1) and Infiniti (group 2) between September 2014 and January 2015. Group 1 included 100 eyes from 78 patients and group 2 included 100 eyes from 76 patients. All operations were performed by same surgeon using the phaco chop techniques. Cataract grade, and EPT was recorded for each patient.

Results:

The mean EPT for group1 was 7.83±5.42 seconds and EPT for group2 was 10.19±6.44 (p<0.05). The groups were further analyzed according to preoperative LOCS III grading. The Mean EPT for group1 was 6.10±3.53 with NO2, 7.93±5.87 with NO3, and 8.97±4.77 with NO4/4+. The Mean EPT for group2 was 5.03±3.18, 10.93±6.14, 13.09±6.55 respectively. The mean EPT in the group1 was higher than in the group2 for NO2(p<0.05). For NO3, The mean EPT was significantly lower in the group1 than in the group2(P<0.05). For NO4/4+, The group1 had lower EPT than in the group2 again, but the difference was not significant(p=0.212).

Conclusions:

Centurion vision system can be efficient for cataract surgery using lower EPT compared to the infiniti vision system.
