Abstract Details

Purpose:

First evaluation of the measurement accuracy using a new optical biometer IOL Master 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec) with OCT-Swept source technology, and comparison according to three other optical biometers IOL Master 5.4 (Carl Zeiss Meditec), AL-Scan (Nidek) and Aladdin (Topcon) devices.

Setting:

Clinique de la Vision, Paris, France.

Methods:

In a prospective clinical study, biometric measurements along with intra-ocular lens power calculation using four non contact optical biometers were performed. 80 eyes (with cataract or not) of 42 patients were included in the study. Results were elaborated using Pearson's correlation for Axial Lenght (AL), mean Keratometry (Km), Anterior Chamber Distance (ACD) and IOL calculation (A const 118, SRKT formula).

Results:

Preliminary results of 28 eyes (14 patients:40.0±15.6 years hold) are reported in this abstract. Mean values (± SD) of AL results for IOL Master 700, IOL Master 5.4, AL-Scan and Aladdin were respectively: 24.04±1.69 mm; 24.00±1.70 mm; 24.00±1.70 mm;24.04±1.69 mm. Mean values of Km results were respectively: 43.95±1.58D;43.99±1.45 D;43.96±1.50 D;43.91±1.44 D.Mean values of ACD results were respectively: 3.52±0.58 mm;3.43±0.55 mm;3.46±0.57 mm;3.47±0.54 mm. Mean values of IOL Power Calculation were respectively: 18.30 D; 18.27 D; 18.21 D; 18.18 D. Correlation evaluation for IOL Power Calculation was r=0,998 (IOL Master 700 vs IOL Master 5.4); r=0.998 (IOL Master 700 vs Al-Scan); r=0,998 (IOL Master 700 vs Aladdin);(p<0.001).

Conclusions:

The IOL Master 700 device using new OCT-Swept source technology, enables to perform accurate and repetitive biometric measurements and intra-ocular lens (IOL) power calculations. The first comparative IOL power calculation results obtained using IOL Master 700 device, are comparable to those achieved using three other non-contact optical biometers devices (IOL Master 5.4, AL-Scan and Aladdin). In our experience,100% of biometric measurement were possible with IOL Master 700 (Total of 80 eyes, including dense cataracts). We will present the final results (80 eyes) and their significance.
