Optimal anesthesia in children subjected to strabismus surgery

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Choice of optimal anesthesia method for learning of hemodynamic indices in children subjected to the strabismus surgery.

Setting:

A.Aliyeva Azerbaijan State Institute for the Advanced Training of Docters, Baku National Ophthalmology Centre named after acad. Zarifa Aliyeva, Baku

Methods:

The investigation was used to 68 children at the age of 7-14 years of old who had been subjected to the strabismus surgery of both eyes. By the method of endotracheal LMA ProSealTM we used total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) to 32 patients (group 1) and ketofol (ketamin, propofol) anesthesia to 34 patients (group 2). Out of these central hemodynamic indices with the help of dopplerechocardiographia the stroke volume and minute volume of the heart were studied. Besides these, the mean arterial pressure and cardiac minute quantity were defined.

Results:

By using the method of endotracheal LMA ProSealTM during TIVA the central hemodynamic indices were more stable than ketofol anesthesia. Here-with by using the endotracheal method in the spontaneous breathing in this group of children we’d observed the earlier awaking from anesthesia.

Conclusions:

On the basis of the hemodynamic indices study of children subjected to the strabismus surgery, it was revealed that by the endotracheal LMA ProSealTM method, the TIVA is more optimal anesthesia as compared with the ketofol anesthesia.
