Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze surgically induced refractive change (SIRC) after Raindrop corneal inlay insertion in Pentacam rotating scheimpflug camera.

Setting:

Seoul St. Mary hospital, Seoul, Republic of Korea

Methods:

The Raindrop corneal inlay (ReVision Optics, Inc., Lake Forest, CA) was implanted on the corneal stromal bed beneath a keratotomy flap in 21 nondominant eyes of 21 patients. Simulated K, true net power (TNP), equivalent K-reading (EKR), and total corneal refractive power (TCRP) were provided by Pentacam (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany) Scheimpflug rotating camera were compared with surgically induced refractive change(SIRC) measured by subjective refraction. To determine the differeces between SIRC and keratometric measurements, Wilcoxon signed raked tests were performed, and the total experimental level of significance was set at 0.05.

Results:

The change of spherical equivalent refraction was 1.03 diopter. The changes of TNP produced more dioptric power than SIRC. The EKR and TCRP at central cornea also produced more dioptric power than SIRC. While the changes at EKR 4.5mm zone, EKR 5.0mm zone and TCRP 4.0mm zone did not produce statistically significant difference with SIRC. (1.22 diopter,p=0.05 / 1.01 diopter,p=0.73, 1.09 diopter, p=0.44)

Conclusions:

EKR at 5.0mm zone provided by Pentacam scheimpflug camera accurately reflected the surgically induced change in refractive power. The application of EKR 5.0mm will be recommended in intraocular lens power calculation before cataract surgery.
