Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the visual outcomes and corneal stability of patients after Presbylasik treatment for the correction of presbyopia.

Setting:

Vissum-Corporación Oftalmológica de Alicante. Alicante, Spain.

Methods:

This retrospective, observational, consecutive, study included a total of 82 eyes of 41 patients treated with PresbyMAX software (Schwind eye-tech solutions GmbH and Co, Germany) with the aim of minimizing the presbyopia and the refractive error. Age ranging between 40 to 61 years. Corneal topography was measured with CSO topographer (CSO, Florence, Italy). Distance, near and intermediate visual acuity, refractive outcomes and corneal aberrations were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively during 3 years follow up. Postoperative optical zone diameter were also analized.

Results:

The mean binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) was 0.1 logMAR or better in 93.3% of patients and improved from 0.47±0.27 logMAR preoperatively to 0.02±0.04 logMAR at 3 years (p<0.01). The uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) was 0.2 logMAR or better in 66.7% of patients and improved from 0.45±0.40 logMAR preoperative to 0.16±0.14 logMar postoperatively (p<0.01). Mean manifest spherical equivalent refraction reduced from 0.50±2.62 diopters (D) to 0.05±0.49 D at 3 years(p<0.01) and 95% of eyes were within 0.75 D of defocus. Statistical significant differences were not found (p≥0.06) in corneal aberrations and optical zone diameter over the time.

Conclusions:

Three years findings showed that Presbylasik treatments provided stable visual and topographic outcomes. Presbyopic symptoms and distance refraction are corrected at the same time with the same treatment, obtaining good visual quality for all distances in the majority of cases. Patient selection and expectation management are essential to achieve patient satisfaction.
