Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the Image-guided Surgery VERION System (Alcon), and the different anterior corneal keratometric values results obtained with VERION, optical low-coherence reflectometer and Auto kerato-refractometer.
Setting:
Universal eye center, Zhong-Li
Methods:
This compare study evaluated 100 eyes of 55 cataract patients (mean age 60.60±7.75; range 46 to 74), before phacoemulsification with IOL implantation, consecutive tests by 4 devices: VERION image guided system (Alcon), Lenstar LS-900 (Haag-Streit), Nidek AL-Scan optical biometry(2.4 and 3.3 mm diameter), Auto Kerato-Refractometer KR-8800 (Topcon). Analyzed parameters were corneal steep (K1) and flat keratometric values (K2) and axis. To calculate the preoperative corneal astigmatism (K1-K2), average keratometry (K avg) = (K1+K2)/2.These parameters were evaluated by paired t test and correlation analysis.
Results:
VERION keratometry values, mean K1 was 43.47D with mean axis 83.68°, mean K2 was 44.36D with mean axis 94.65±53.09°, mean astigmatism was -0.88D, mean K avg was 43.91D; the mean difference in astigmatism of VERION with LS900, AL-Scan (2.4mm and 3.3mm diameter), KR-8800 were respectively in 0.03±0.54 D, 0.08±0.56 D, -0.01±0.65 D, -0.07±0.52 D. No statistical significant were found (t=-0.21,-0.66,0.33,1.01;P=0.84,0.51,0.74,0.32), mean difference in K avg showed no significantly different(0.19 to 0.33 D). The mean difference in K1 and K2 axis of astigmatism were 4.39°to 13.88° and 3.58° to 5.83°.
Conclusions:
Compared to three devices, the VERION also was precisely in keratometric values and axis. However, the measurement and application of methods should according to the individual patient factors and clinical purposes.
