Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare mean keratometry for the same eyes obtained by IOLMaster and VERION™ Image Guided System keratometers. Repeatability between the same device and interchangeability between devices will be studied.
Setting:
Hospital San Eloy, Barakaldo, Spain
Methods:
A prospective study involving the measurement of average keratometry (Km) with IOLMaster and VERION™ Image Guided System keratometers on 110 eyes of 55 consecutive patients aged 41 to 86. Reliability was evaluated by coefficient of variation (CV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). After checking normality distribution of the samples, inter-device Pearson correlation was obtained between the average measures for the same eye between the two devices via T Student test.
Results:
The CV of Km measured by IOLMaster was 0.11% and 0.87% for VERION™ Image Guided System. The ICC measures Km for IOLMaster was 0.99 and 0.96 VERION. The average Km obtained by IOLMaster was 44.38 ± 1.24D and by VERION 44.96 ± 1.37D. The correlation coefficient for the measurement of Km between IOLMaster and VERION was 0.9506 (p <0.05). However, the average difference between devices for each eye was 0.59D (95% CI 0.51- 0.67) in favor of VERION™ Image Guided System (p <0.05)
Conclusions:
The average keratometry measured by IOLMaster and VERION™ Image Guided System has good repeatability but they should not be interchanged. VERION systematically measured a more curve Km. Interchanging these values without lens constant adjustment would induce an error in the calculation of the spherical lens power
