Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study Endothelial cell count after Artiflex Lens Implantation in patients with moderate to high myopia.

Setting:

Vanak Eye Clinic, Tehran, Iran.

Methods:

In this prospective study 53 eyes from 53 patients undergoing artiflex intraocular lens implantation for correction of myopia from -4.5 diopter to -14 diopter in Vanak Eye Clinic, Tehran, Iran from 2007 to 2014 were evaluated regarding the 3 months post operative corneal endothelial cell count. All patients had normal anterior segment and no previous pathology of cornea. All lenses were implanted by one surgeon.

Results:

The mean age of patients was 25±4.8 with 40 females and 13 males. The mean preoperative endothelial cell count was 2819±334 which was reduced to 2762±363. The reduction among males was statistically more than females (p<0.05). Age of patients did not show a statistically significant relation with endothelial cell reduction.

Conclusions:

In our study patients' gender (being male) was shown to be a risk factor for endothelial cell reduction after artiflex lens implementation for correction of myopia. Age did not show a statistically significant relation with endothelial cell reduction.
