Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the agreement among the measurements obtained with Orbscan, Pentacam and IOL Master during the preoperative exam performed to calculate the size of posterior chamber phakic Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL).

Setting:

Clinica Rementeria, Madrid, Spain

Methods:

Retrospective study of consecutive eyes that underwent ICL implantation for the correction of high myopia. Preoperative examination of the anterior segment was performed using Orbscan, Pentacam and IOL Master. In all cases, the horizontal white-to-white (WTW) distance obtained with Orbscan was used for the calculation of ICL size. One month postoperatively, we evaluated central vault and distance from the endothelium to anterior surface of ICL using an anterior segment optical coherence tomography. We evaluated and compared the ICL size that would have been implanted using the measurements obtained with Pentacam and IOL Master.

Results:

21 eyes of 11 patients were included in the study. One month postoperatively, mean central vault was 550 ± 0.16 µm and mean distance from the endothelium to anterior surface of ICL was 2.46 ± 0.18 mms. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for the horizontal WTW was high between Orbscan and Pentacam (CCI=0.961; P= 0.05) and low between Orbscan and IOL Master (CCI = 0.011; P=0.05). In 40% of eyes, ICL size calculated with IOL Master would have been higher than with Orbscan.

Conclusions:

Measurements obtained with Orbscan and Pentacam show a very high agreement for the calculation of ICL size. Our results suggest that IOL Master tends to overestimate the ICL size compared to Orbscan.
