Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine amount of change in wavefront aberrometric measurements from postoperative day one to postoperative year one after myopic LASIK.
Setting:
University based refractive surgery service
Stanford University School of Medicine, USA.
Methods:
One hundred and five eyes of 105 patients underwent wavefront guided LASIK for myopia. Objective wavefront aberrometric measurements were recorded preoperatively, at postoperative day one and at postoperative year one. Subjective manifest refractions were also collected at postoperative year one.
Results:
When comparing objective wavefront aberrometric measurements at postoperative year one to postoperative day one, there was a mean 0.33 diopter spherical equivalent myopic shift. There was no significant difference in the number of eyes within 1.00 diopter of emmetropia spherical equivalent measured by wavefront aberrometric refraction at postoperative day one or year one. There was a correlation of R2 = 0.14 between degree of preoperative myopia and myopic shift.. Higher-order aberrations were overall not increased at day one but increased significantly by year one.
Conclusions:
There is a small myopic shift and an increase in higher order aberrations when comparing wavefront aberrometry results at postoperative day one with those at postoperative year one. Objective aberrometric measurements at postoperative day one can be useful in prediction of long-term refractive outcomes.
