Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess patient reported outcomes (PRO) at 1 month in myopic subjects who underwent LASIK treatment with the EX500 excimer and FS200 femtosecond lasers.

Setting:

Prospective, post-market, and open label trial at 1 site, each in US and Europe.

Methods:

Myopic subjects 18 years of age or older underwent LASIK treatment with the EX500 excimer and FS200 femtosecond lasers. Subjects with myopia up to -12.0 sphere and 6 D cylinder were eligible. PRO following LASIK treatment was assessed with the Refractive Status Vision Profile (RSVP) questionnaire. Questions 3, 10, and 17 of the RSVP questionnaire were evaluated.

Results:

59 subjects underwent LASIK treatment. For question 3, 98.3% of subjects did not wear glasses or contact lenses at 1 month compared to 0% at baseline For question 10, on a 0 to 10 scale, the mean score for vision over the previous 4 weeks without glasses or contact lenses was 2.7 (1.42) at baseline and 9.0 (1.03) at 1 month. For the question 18, “I worry about my vision”, a response of “never” was reported by 15.3% and 27.1% of subjects at baseline and 1 month respectively.

Conclusions:

At 1 month postoperatively, most subjects did not wear glasses or contact lenses for distance vision, subjects had an improvement in their vision compared to baseline, and more subjects did not worry about their vision compared to baseline.
