Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the results of the small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE) in low myopia
Setting:
Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital
Methods:
A retrospective analysis of 40 eyes of 20 myopia patients (<4.00D) performed Small İncision Lenticule Extraction (SMİLE) in Refractive Surgery Department of Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital between May 2012-2013 by using femtosecond laser system (Visumax©) was examined. Preoperative and 1st,6th,12th and 18th months postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) , best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) (logMAR) and refractive status were examined. SPSS 20.0 analysing programme was used for statistical calculations.
Results:
The mean age was 24±5.8 years. Preoperative mean spherical value was -2,96±0,92 D, cylinderic value was -0,45±0,36D and spherical equivalant was -3,25±1,0 D. Twelve months after the procedure the mean spherical value was -0,11±0,20D, cylinderical value was -0,18±0,14D and spherical equivalant was detected -0,20±0,31D. Preoperative UDVA and BCVA values were 1.32±0.14 and 0,08±0,07 respectively and 12 month postoperatively were 0,15±0,08 and 0.16±0.08 (p<0,001,p:0,003), 18 months after the procedure were detected 0,12±0,06 and 0.10±0.06 (p<0,001,p:0,2) respectively. No complications were reported during the procedure.
Conclusions:
İn low myopia, SMILE is a safe and effective method which is not leading any flap complications and performed by using small incision with femtosecond laser
