Abstract Details
Purpose:
to assess the outcomes of cataract extraction in the hands of third year residents after vitreous loss either in phacoemulsification or extracapsular cataract extraction surgeries.
Setting:
Sohag University Hospital, Egypt
Methods:
Two third-year residents were evaluated for their managment of vitreous loss in 20 cases each ( 10 eyes phacoemulsification cataract extraction and 10 eyes ECCE). Follow up of one month postoperative to detect UCVA, Corneal oedema, IOP, pupil shape, presence of vitreous in anterior chamber, presence of iritis.
Results:
Th two residents managed the phacoemulsification vitrous loss better than in the ECCE group. There were less IOP rises with less distorted pupil in the phacoemulsification group.
Conclusions:
Vitreous loss was better managed in the phacoemulsification group with better outcomes even if primary intraocular implantation was postponed.
