Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the outcome of implantation of an apodized diffractive multifocal IOL in a pediatric case of unilateral cataract.
Setting:
Academic Ophthalmology Department, AMC, University of Amsterdam, NL
Methods:
Case report describing the implantation of a SN6AD3 IOL for secondary cataract after irradiation for a parapharyngeal rhabdomyosarcoma in a girl aged 7 years.
Results:
After prolonged follow up the multifocal pseudophakic eye was less myopic than the non-operated eye. Corrected visual acuity is logMAR -0.1 in both eyes. On testing decreased reading speed was attributed to the asymmetry between the eyes. Glistenings were minor. The patient, and her parents are pleased with the result.
Conclusions:
In a single case of secondary cataract implanted with a multifocal apodized diffractive IOL the visual and refractive results was acceptable, while showing no significant glistenings.
