Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate late results of efficacy ,stability and patient satisfaction of presbyopic patients treated with Supracor PresbyLasik technique for the correction of presbyopia.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Istanbul Surgery Hospital

Methods:

Bilateral Supracor PresbyLasik using Technolas 217p excimer laser was performed on consecutive 400 eyes of 200 hyperopic and 80 eyes of 40 myopic presbyopic patients .The patients followed minimally 6 months or longer were included in this retrospective study. Mean follow- up time of hyperopic patients was 22 ,8±11,2 months and 13,8±6,1 months of myopic patients. Study parameters were binocular uncorrected and best corrected distance visual acuity(UDVA,BCDVA),uncorrected near visual acuity(UCNVA),objective refraction, patient satisfaction and further the enhancement rate. The patients were followed on 1st day, 1st month, 6 th months, 1 year and then recalled once a year .

Results:

Mean age was 50,1± 4 and 47,9± 4,9 years.MRSE was +1.7± 0,8 and -3,2± 1,8 Diopters. Binocular mean UCDVA was 0,60 ± 0.3 in hyperopic patients (H) and 0.15 ± 0.2 in myopic patients(M) and respectively was 0.80±0.1(H)at and 0.8± 0,2 in M eyes at year 3. Binocular Uncorrected near visual acuity(UCNVA) improved from 0,15± 0,2 and 0,7± 0,3 to 0,81± 2( H) patients and 0,85± 0,1(Jaeger No.2) . %10 hyperopic eyes and %11 myopic eyes lost one or more Jaeger lines by time. According to patient questionnaire, 5 patients(%12,5)in myopic patients and 50 patients(%12,5) were dissatisfied after the surgery. %11,5 hyperopic and % 5 myopic eyes needed enhancement treatment because of over or undercorrection.

Conclusions:

The procedure provided a high level of spectacle independence for near vision in both hyperopic and myopic presbyopic patients. The UDVA outcomes need to be improved with nomogram adjustment to reduce the retreatment rate. % 10 possibility of regression must be discussed with the patients before performing Supracor treatment.
