Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study visual function with different luminances (photopic 85cd / m2 and mesopic 5 cd / m2) in patients implanted with trifocal diffractive IOL.

Setting:

Clinico San Carlos University Hospital,Madrid,Spain

Methods:

50 patients diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes and implanted bilaterally with diffractive trifocal FineVision and AT Tri Lisa equal groups. Three months after surgery refractive values and visual acuity (LogMAR) far without compensation (UCVA) and best compensation (BCVA) were obtained. The intermediate visual acuity (AVI 65 cm) were also measured and near (40 cm AVC), both with far better compensation. Binocular contrast sensitivity was studied with CSV1000 test and Pelli Robson test. Defocus curve was measured under photopic and binocular mesopic conditions with the best compensation in a range of + 1.50D and -4.00D in increments of 0.50D.

Results:

The mean age of patients was 68.4 ± 5.5 years and the mean pupillary diameter in mesopic conditions was 4.78 ± 0.5mm (range 3.86 to 5.78mm). Fine Vision IOL BCVA was 0.05 ± 0.06 LogMAR, AVI 0.25 ± 0.1 LogMAR and AVC 0.13 ± 0.1 LogMAR, while AT Tri Lisa BCVA was - 0.04 ± 0.11 LogMAR, AVI 0.32 ± 0.09 LogMAR and AVC 0.12 ± 0.11 LogMAR. Measuring contrast sensitivity with Pelli Robson and CSV1000 not obtained statistically significant differences between the two groups. No statistically significant differences between the two IOLs under photopic and mesopic conditions at any point of the defocus curves were found.

Conclusions:

Visual function and quality in patients implanted with trifocal diffractive IOL is very successful at various levels and light environments with no differences between them.
